Biography: Lester Joseph Gillis, better known as Baby Face Nelson, was an American bank robber known for his partnership with John Dillinger. Nelson helped Dillinger to escape, famously using a wooden pistol, from a prison in Crown Point, Indiana.
Nelson had been an established criminal in his own right prior to meeting Dillinger, starting with robberies at an early age and ultimately going on to lead his own gang. This group is believed to have aided in Dillinger's escape, after which the two groups entered into a partnership.
Known as a particular violent bank robber, Nelson killed more FBI agents in his career than any other criminal. They finally had their revenge when he was killed by FBI agents at the Battle of Barrington which was fought in Chicago, Illinois.
